This Markie label has a Chicago address, and vintage is most likely early 1960's, but obviously later than Shelley's hit in the spring of 1962. Anyone know who is actually singing in this recording?
ARDELLS		"YOU CAN FALL IN LOVE" ARDELLS SELMA 4001		47 | Uptempo Four Seasons sound-a-like from the year 1963. From a website posting, Florida record collector Jeff Lemlich stated that this group originated from Florida but migrated to upstate New York during this particular phase of the group's history.
RAY ARTIS		"DEAR LIZ" RAY ARTIS BUNDY 222		39 | From Brooklyn New York, this is a great medium tempo teen idol tune from 1962. Brooklyn native Ray Artis was actually Ray Sitra, born in 1943. He later became a country and western singer until his passing in November 1988, according to his son Christopher who emailed me in 2005.
AVONS		"ALONE AT EIGHT" AVONS COLUMBIA 45-DB 4363(U.K.)		56 | Uptempo teen group sound from England, the year was 1959. The members were sisters in law Valerie and Elaine Murtagh, and Ray Adams.

BAND OF GOLD		"HER LOVE" BAND OF GOLD MUMMP 11		47 | Detroit Michigan area band led by songwriter and lead singer Louis Cingolani, the year was 1967. Nice ballad with group backing. Louis was kind enough to get in touch with me by phone in May 2009 to talk about the old days performing at the Mummp teen club in Detroit as the Sandpipers and his association with other vocal groups of that era such as the Shades Of Blue.
BEACH BOYS		"GIRL DON'T TELL ME" BEACH BOYS CAPITOL 5561		45 | Uptempo Beach Boys song with Carl Wilson singing lead vocals, flip side of the big hit "Barbara Ann". This cut was also on their LP, "Summer Days and Summer Nights".
FREDDIE BEACH		"WHY" FREDDIE BEACH SUMMIT 223		35 | Nice medium tempo country teen crossover from the early 1960's. Freddie Beach was once with country great Hank Williams. RON BENNET		"DINGLE DANGLE DOLL" RON BENNET TA-RAH 1		31 | Medium fast white doowop piece from Chicago Illinois, the year was 1961. Ron Bennet was actually Mike Joseph, who wrote the song and also had other records such as "Sandy" on the Lucky Four label.
FRED BIBLE		"BLOND HAIR AND GREEN EYES" FRED BIBLE ALECIA 5503		35 | From Jacksonville Florida, this country crossover teen ballad by Fred Bible is a great example of that genre of music from the year 1962. Fred Bible sent me a brief email in May 2005 asking me how I found his record and thanking me for the memories of being able to hear his song again.
BILLY AND THE KIDS		"TAKE A CHANCE ON LOVE" BILLY AND THE KIDS LUTE 6016		31 | Medium fast white doowop group from East Los Angeles, the year was 1961. Writers credits go to Steve Gold, publisher is Kavelin- BMI affiliation. Produced by GOLD-COLBURT. Anyone have any more information on these Billy and the Kids?
BLANE AND THE JULIANS		"GO ON" BLANE AND THE JULIANS JULIAN 100		53 | Early 1960's teen rocker from Wenatchee Washington, known for it's annual spring Apple Blossom Festival and fruit orchards nearby. This has a hint of Buddy Holly in spots. Blane is Blane Gifford, who also recorded at least one other record on the Julian label. Anyone have any more information on Blane Gifford?
DANNY BOYD		"COME ON BACK" DANNY BOYD RORI 713		41 | Uptempo teen rocker from 1962. The writer's credits go to B. Walsh, the publisher is B-W Music-Calliope (BMI). Anyone have any more information on Danny Boyd?
BREAKERS		"ALL MY NIGHTS, ALL MY DAYS" BREAKERS RIVERTON 102		45 | Medium slow Beach Boys styled sound from 1966. The Breakers were actually the Wailers, from my home town of Tacoma Washington. Ron Gardner wrote the song. This was later released on the more widely distributed Jerden label.
BREAKERS		"BALBOA MEMORIES" BREAKERS MARSH 206		47 | Medium tempo southern California white vocal group from 1963, about teen life in Balboa Island near Newport Beach California. Click here to read a little history of Balboa Island.
BRIDGET		"AMERICA 209-264-3766" BRIDGET SPARROW 125		33 | From the fall of 1964,this is girl pop singer teen angst at it's finest! Love song to the Beatles,jumping on to catch the Beatle craze at the time. Bridget was actually Susan Kuykendall, youngest sister of Ricki and Sonya Kuykendall, of the Page Sisters fame. She was from Fresno California.

DICK CARUSO		"IF I" DICK CARUSO MGM 12852		39 | Teen idol singer from Rhode Island, this is a nice uptempo teen doowop piece from about December 1959. From my research, he appeared on American Bandstand and also performed in Australia. Anyone have more information on Dick Caruso?
CINNAMON ANGELS		"LET'S BE SWEETHEARTS" CINNAMON ANGELS B.T. PUPPY 559		33 | Great uptempo girl group doowop sound. From the label number, it was released in 1968 or 1969, but from the sound it would appear to be early 1960's. Rumored to be the Chiffons, of "He's So Fine" fame.
HARVEY CONNELL AND THE EFICS		"A MILLION HEARTS" HARVEY CONNELL AND THE EFICS VERNON 100		31 | This record by Harvey Connell is an excellent medium fast teen crossover doowop piece from Ohio, the year was 1962. In 2004 I heard from a man who actually recorded music with Harvey in his studio in Columbus Ohio in the mid 1960's, a few years after this record. The studio did not make any money, according to him,so it was closed down. Harvey later owned a bar and lived in Mount Vernon Ohio.

VIC DANA		"HELLO ROOMATE" VIC DANA DOLTON 317		35 | Medium tempo teen country crossover sound released on the Dolton label late 1965 or 1966 but could very well been recorded earlier. The original version was recorded in 1961 as the flip of the hit "Little Altar Boy". This later release has more of a group backup, which is why I think this is better.
DANTE AND HIS FRIENDS		"MISS AMERICA" DANTE AND HIS FRIENDS IMPERIAL 5827		47 | Medium tempo teen idol tune from 1962, also covered by the Beach Boys. Click here for more information on Don Drowty, of Dante and his Friends.
HOWARD DAVIS		"LIGHTNING" HOWARD DAVIS ARK 251		41 | Uptempo teen rocker from Cincinnati Ohio, the year was 1963. Has that "teen death song" element with a background similar to some Ricky Nelson records. Howard also recorded this on the Dixie label as Howard and the Darts. Any information on Howard Davis as a singer or his life in general would be appreciated.
RAY DAVIS AND THE COACHMEN FIVE		"OH JOAN" RAY DAVIS AND THE COACHMEN FIVE JANSON 100		31 | From River Edge New Jersey, Ray Davis and the Coachmen Five recorded this great teen doowop ballad in 1960 on the Los Angeles based Janson label. The group performed at the Peppermint Lounge and the Wagon Wheel in New York City, according to one of the group members who emailed me in 2006. Ray Davis died young, passed away from cancer in the 1960's.
DEBBIE & GAYLIS		"MY LIFE IS SO LONELY" DEBBIE & GAYLIS JULIAN 105		33 | From Wenatchee Washington, this was the flip side one of the Talismen's coveted garage 45's. This is a nice teen sound in the vein of the Shirelles "Soldier Boy". Writers and singers on this mid 1960's piece are Carmichael and Linville. The Linville girl's older brother was a college dormmate of mine at Central Washington State College in Ellensburg in the late 1960's.
DEVILLES		"CRY BABY" DEVILLES STUDIO CITY 1045		41 | From Duluth Minnesota, the Devilles do a great cover of the Fireballs song, "Cry Baby". The year was 1965. Click here to see a picture of the Devilles,more known for their garage band records.
DENNY DIANTE		"TRAVELED" DENNY DIANTE HOLIDAY 1121		39 | Nice sentimental teen ballad in the style of Frankie Avalon, the year was 1964. Denny Diante became successful in all phases of the music business and lives in southern California as of 2009. He has also been kind enough to share a few of his old memories about his early recording days with me by email.
DICKIE & THE DEBONAIRES		"YO YO GIRL" DICKIE & THE DEBONAIRES VALLI 302		31 | From South Bend Indiana, this early to mid 1960's vintage white doowop group was led by Richard "Dickie" Orvis. Nice uptempo piece from the Hoosier state.
DINO AND THE EX-TEENS		"CATHY" DINO AND THE EX-TEENS DINO 79920		39 | From Portsmouth New Hampshire, this medium tempo teen idol record was released just about the time of the British Invasion, early 1964. It actually sounds earlier than that, but this is the year according to Jack Bryan, one of the members of the group. Thanks to Jack for the label scan and friendly emails!
DION AND THE BELMONTS		"A TEENAGER IN LOVE" DION AND THE BELMONTS LAURIE 3027		30 | Charted #5 on Billboard in 1959. White vocal group from New York, featuring lead singer Dion DiMucci. Named for Belmont Avenue in the Bronx,Dion had a successful career after the days with the Belmonts.
DISRAELI		"SAY YOU LOVE ME" DISRAELI MANTRA 114		53 | Astoria Oregon rock group from the late 1960's, my research has this recorded in January 1969. Nice melodic sound similar to some of the early Beatles records. This group had other releases more in the psychedelic vein, but this is my favorite.
DON AND THE GOODTIMES		"I COULD BE SO GOOD TO YOU" DON AND THE GOODTIMES EPIC 10145		52 | Pacific Northwest rock quintet led by Don Gallucci,of Portland Oregon. One of my favorite regional hits of it's day, this is from 1967 and peaked at #56 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.

FIRST CLASS		"BEACH BABY" FIRST CLASS U.K. 49022		54 | Mid 1970's surf pop sound, by an assemblage of some of England's leading studio musicians at the time, led by Tony Burrows. Written by John Carter and his wife, Gail Shakespeare. The song hit the Hot 100 Billboard Charts in the summer of 1974 and was on the charts for 17 weeks, peaking at #4.
FLASH CADILLAC AND THE CONTINENTAL KIDS		"SHE'S SO FINE" FLASH CADILLAC AND THE CONTINENTAL KIDS EPIC 11043		55 | Uptempo teen doowop sound from an unlikely year, 1973. FOUR GRADUATES		"CANDY QUEEN" FOUR GRADUATES RUST 5084		47 | From Paterson New Jersey, these guys were actually the Happenings before they became known nationally. FOUR SEASONS		"SHERRY" FOUR SEASONS VEE JAY 456		46 | Vocal group formed in Newark New Jersey led by Frankie Valli. "Sherry" made the charts for 14 weeks in 1962, and reached #1. I got to see Frankie Valli perform at the Western Washington Fairgrounds in Puyallup Washington in September 2008. He sang most of his old hits.
FOUR TOWNSMEN		"IT WASN'T SO LONG BEFORE" FOUR TOWNSMEN ART-FLOW 145		31 | Great teen doowop ballad from 1963. The Four Townsmen hail from the western Pennsylvania town of Canonsburg, which also produced Bobby Vinton and Perry Como. Click here to visit the Four Townsmen website.

I got an email from Mike Seta in December 2004. He is the son of one of the former band members reporting that lead singer Dan Williams was killed in Vietnam.

This was Ginger Blake,(aka Sandra Lantz) later of the Honeys who backed up the Beach Boys and recorded on their own.
