This Markie label has a Chicago address, and vintage is most likely early 1960's, but obviously later than Shelley's hit in the spring of 1962. Anyone know who is actually singing in this recording?
RAY ARTIS		"DEAR LIZ" RAY ARTIS BUNDY 222		Category 39 | From Brooklyn New York, this is a great medium tempo teen idol tune from 1962. Brooklyn native Ray Artis was actually Ray Sitra, born in 1943. He later became a country and western singer until his passing in November 1988, according to his son Christopher who emailed me in 2005.

Denny Diante became successful in all phases of the music business and lives in southern California as of 2009. He has also been kind enough to share a few of his old memories about his early recording days with me by email.
DINO AND THE EX-TEENS		"CATHY" DINO AND THE EX-TEENS DINO 79920		Category 39 | From Portsmouth New Hampshire, this medium tempo teen idol record was released just about the time of the British Invasion, early 1964. It actually sounds earlier than that, but this is the year according to Jack Bryan, one of the members of the group. Thanks to Jack for the label scan and friendly emails!

Danny Hargrove made the country Billboard charts in 1978 with "Sweet Mary" and "I Wanna Be Her #1".

AL RENO		"CHERYL" AL RENO KAPP 432		Category 39 | Medium tempo white vocal group sound from 1961. Al Reno was from the Bronx, and was in another doowop group called the Selections. "Cheryl" was backed by another white group the Dials, who recorded on the Philips label in their own right. Al Reno's real name was Al Di Paolo.
TODD RICHARDS		"TELL ME TEENAGE TEARS" TODD RICHARDS ABC PARAMOUNT 10,084		Category 39 | Nice medium tempo teen sound from 1960. Somewhat in the style of Frankie Avalon, but has a nice group backup which enhances the record even more. Writers are Molinaro-Colletti-Merle, publisher is Tonecraft Music, BMI affiliation. Any further information on Todd Richards would be appreciated.

ROGER AND THE TOURAINS		"JOANIE" ROGER AND THE TOURAINS GALAXY 641		Category 39 | Nice medium tempo teen ballad from Massachusetts, recorded July 1961. The Galaxy label comes from Newton, a bedroom community near Boston. The group was led by Roger Coveno, confirmed in an email from his daughter Brenda in July 2008.
DAN ROGERS		"NO GIRL FOR ME" DAN ROGERS ERA 3131		Category 39 | Elvis Presley styled teen ballad from 1964. Song was written by Dan Peddicord, I am wondering if he could be Dan Rogers on this record? There is a Dan Peddicord who was a singer and songwriter of country music. My research points to southern California from the writer, publisher and label.

I got to speak with Wayne Toombs on the phone in 2003 when he was still living in Blytheville Arkansas. He owned a music store, and worked part time for the Blytheville Police Department. Enjoyed our conversation about music and the business in general at the time he recorded this. Wayne passed away unexpectedly in 2005.
